What You'll Do:

  • Walk dogs on designated outdoor paths

  • Provide positive social interaction, basic training, and enrichment

  • Monitor behavior and report any health or behavioral concerns to staff

  • Help keep walking areas tidy and safe

You’ll Thrive in This Role If You:

  • Are comfortable handling dogs of various sizes and energy levels

  • Have a calm, patient demeanor

  • Are physically able to walk for 30-60 minutes, sometimes with energetic pups!

Mission Statement

Find loving, forever homes for abused and unwanted pets.

Description

Founded in 1984, the Humane Society of Central Illinois (HSCI) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to protecting and improving the lives of animals throughout the Bloomington-Normal community and surrounding areas. HSCI receives no federal, state, or local tax funding. Instead, the organization relies heavily on the generosity of individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners, as well as proceeds from fundraising activities and nominal adoption and membership fees.

Each year, HSCI provides care, shelter, and adoption services to more than 2,200 animals in need. Through dedicated partnerships with local veterinarians, the organization facilitates over 1,000 spay/neuter procedures annually and investigates more than 500 humane cases. With the support of over 900 active members and countless volunteers who contribute their time and talents, HSCI serves as a vital resource for animal advocacy, education, and community outreach.

At HSCI, all animals are treated with compassion and dignity. The shelter is a safe haven for homeless pets and a welcoming destination for individuals and families seeking to adopt. HSCI plays a leading role in addressing the regional crisis of unwanted and homeless animals by collaborating with local shelters and rescue organizations to save lives and provide second chances for pets who might otherwise face euthanasia.
