Bridging Beyond seeks to bring people together through empathy, understanding, and active collaboration.
A key part of our work involves developing and delivering training sessions-both internally to Bridging Beyond volunteers and staff, and externally to partner organisations and community groups. These trainings focus on empathy-building, facilitation techniques, and other vital skills needed to foster positive change and bridge societal divisions.
As a Training Associate with RIO, you will:
Deliver Pre-Developed Trainings - Teach established content on empathy-building, facilitation, and other relevant skills to a range of audiences, ensuring each session is engaging and informative.
Assist in Creating New Trainings - Collaborate with RIO members and other stakeholders to research, design, and refine materials that address emerging needs or opportunities.
Adapt Materials for Different Contexts - Customise sessions for varied internal teams (e.g., workshop facilitators, communications staff) and external partners (e.g., community groups, educational institutions).
Promote Interactive Learning - Employ hands-on activities, group discussions, and real-life examples to maintain participant interest and nurture a welcoming environment for questions and feedback.
Evaluate and Reflect - Gather feedback, reflect on each session’s outcomes, and contribute to ongoing improvements in training content and delivery methods.
By sharing your expertise and facilitating meaningful learning experiences, you’ll equip both Bridging Beyond’s internal teams and external collaborators with essential skills for bridging gaps and building stronger communities.
Personal Attributes:
Confident Communicator - You’re comfortable speaking to diverse groups, guiding discussions, and addressing questions in a clear, approachable manner.
Empathetic and Inclusive - You understand how to create a safe learning space that respects different learning styles, cultures, and viewpoints.
Adaptive and Open-Minded - You’re willing to tailor sessions to suit each group’s unique context and respond effectively to participant feedback.
Team-Oriented - You value collaboration, sharing ideas and insights, and supporting RIO’s broader goals of discovery, outreach, and identity-building.
Skills and Experience:
Training or Teaching Background - Experience in education, facilitation, or workshop leadership is highly beneficial (including volunteer or community-based roles).
Curriculum Development - Familiarity with designing or adapting course materials, lesson plans, or training modules.
Subject Matter Expertise - Interest or experience in topics like empathy development, social psychology, conflict resolution, or communication strategies.
Digital Literacy - Comfortable using tools such as presentation software, online collaboration platforms, and video conferencing tools when delivering remote trainings.
Additional ResponsibilitiesTime Commitment: We ask for at least six months of involvement, with a flexible weekly average of 3-5 hours. Actual hours may vary based on training schedules and planning sessions.
Training Sessions: May occur in-person, online, or both, requiring reliable internet access for virtual sessions. In-person events may occasionally involve travel, with expenses reimbursed according to our policies.
Collaboration: Participate in regular RIO discussions to help shape and refine training content, as well as coordinate logistics with relevant teams.
Continuous Improvement: Contribute to post-training debriefs, offering insights to enhance future sessions and ensure Bridging Beyond’s goals remain front and centre.

Mission Statement
We cultivate empathy and understanding across differences.
Description
Our vision
Our vision is to help people live more connected, satisfying, caring lives in community.
Our strategy
To achieve our bold goals, we approach 'bridging’ with a scientific point of view. Our methods are rooted in research showing that empathy is a key driver of social cohesion and trust. By fostering active listening, curiosity, and compassionate dialogue, we help individuals and groups challenge biases, reduce conflict, and build bridges across divides.
Based on the findings of our research team, we have developed a series of workshops with specific methodologies towards building empathy. We are offering these workshops together with strategic partners in different communities based in the London boroughs of Hackney and Islington.
