Volunteer Field Support Assistant

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

This summer, the Ice Age National Scenic Trail is in search of eager assistants to work alongside NPS staff to help our natural resource program with various habitat management projects related to prairie and savanna restoration in Cross Plains, WI. Activities will include but are not limited to: identifying invasive and native plants, invasive species treatment, herbicide application, brush removal, vegetation monitoring, and mapping.

No prior experience is required and we can provide necessary training on site. A personal vehicle will be required for commuting. This would ideally be a long-term volunteering position for the season, once or twice a week for 4-5 hours per day. Scheduling, start and end dates are flexible.


Knowledge/skills desired:

· Ability to work in a community of volunteers and park staff

· Knowledge and understanding of NPS regulations and policies

· Ability to walk 2-3 miles and be on one’s feet for several hours at a time, potentially in adverse weather

· Desire and ability to work outdoors

· Ability to work in hot weather

· Ability to work in a variety of terrain and footing

· Ability to handle some strenuous physical activity
