The New York State HIICAP provides free, confidential, accurate and unbiased health insurance information, counseling, and assistance.
Become a trained HIICAP Volunteer counselor and you will learn about all aspects of Medicare and be able to explain the options to beneficiaries to enhance the program and ensure its effectiveness.
Requirements
- Possess customer service skills and demonstrate patience while providing assistance to beneficiaries.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with beneficiaries.
- Successfully complete program training and mentoring requirements.
- Pass the HIICAP Counselor Exam.
- Have general Computer skills complete initially and ongoing education
- Have an Active Driver’s License.
Duties
- Be able to take calls and accurately collect information and communicate with other HIICAP staff.
- Distribute HIICAP information and resources to Doctors’ Offices, Pharmacies, and other community organizations.
- Provide general information about HIICAP and Medicare Program .
- Commit to set amount of a of time, but have a lot of flexibility to days and hours (example:4 days a month for 3 hours each day)
- Ability to comprehend and clearly explain health insurance information and be detail-oriented.
- Be able to communicate effectively and clearly with other HIICAPstaff.
Important
- Licensed insurance agents are not permitted to participate in the HIICAP program.

Description
Catholic Charities Senior & Caregiver Support Services looks to provide a range of services to support quality of life for seniors. We currently provide an array of services to seniors including transportation, senior dining centers, home delivered meals, and health information, referral and case work program, eldercare program, respite program, support groups and a social adult day care program.
