Who we are:

Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) is a nonprofit organization committed to fighting food insecurity and preventing wasted food. We have cultivated a network of dedicated food rescuers who bring food directly from our donors to nonprofit organizations, letting neighbors help neighbors while reaping the environmental and economic benefits of reducing wasted food. Founded in 2013, our simple, but elegant model has redistributed over 20 million pounds of food cumulatively.

What you’ll do:

Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is seeking a fundraising intern to support our funder research, outreach, and documentation which will help us acquire more funding for our food rescue programs. The funder research responsibilities will entail researching individual donors and foundations that have the potential to support organizations that address food insecurity, provide basic human services, create sustainable food systems, and any other priorities that align with RLC’s mission. The funder outreach responsibilities will include sending emails and making phone calls to individual donor prospects and foundations aligned with RLC’s mission to get basic information about their interests, application process and provide general information about our mission and funding needs. This position is fully remote with flexible scheduling and will be supervised by RLC’s Development Manager. It is an excellent way to gain experience in nonprofit fundraising and better understand how the entire experience from identifying potential funders, securing donations, and cultivating impactful relationships for future support.

Responsibilities:

  • Donor research to find individuals who are interested in supporting RLC’s food rescue programming
  • General outreach to foundations to inquire about application processes, funding interests, and how the foundation’s funding focuses align with RLC’s food rescue programs

  • Partner research to help create fundraising materials that highlight the positive impact we have on the communities we serve

  • Record and track individual donor and foundation communications in our Salesforce database

Who you are:

  • Self-motivated; ability to initiate and work independently

  • Comfortable working in a remote working environment

  • Passionate about nonprofits and the work they do to improve the environment and support underserved communities

  • Great communication and writing skills

  • Interested in learning more about fundraising or how nonprofits sustain the important work they do

RLC interns have the chance to work closely with the executive team and have the opportunity to make a true, meaningful impact in their time with the organization. This is a part-time, unpaid internship, although interns will be reimbursed for travel if local to an operational RLC branch and actively complete food rescue pickups. Interns are expected to work 15-20 hours per week, the start date will be in early June (dates are flexible) and the end date will be in August (dates are flexible). Students should consult with academic faculty to determine if this unpaid experience will earn credit.
