Support Our Community with Compassion and Care

Join Mission Action’s Dolores Shelter Program (DSP) in providing overnight shelter, hot meals, and support services to adults experiencing homelessness. Located at 1050 South Van Ness Avenue, DSP has served the Latinx and immigrant community since 1982 with bilingual and culturally competent care.

Founded in response to the Central American refugee crisis, DSP began as a church-based shelter and has grown into a vital resource for the Mission District. It is also home to Jazzie’s Place, San Francisco’s first LGBTQ-affirming shelter, ensuring a safe and inclusive space for all.

As a volunteer, you’ll help create a welcoming environment by assisting with dinner setup and meal service at the start of our overnight shelter operations.

Who We Look For

We are seeking dedicated volunteers who:

  • Are team-oriented and enjoy working in collaborative settings.
  • Are reliable and punctual to ensure smooth operations.
  • Are compassionate and committed to treating all guests with dignity and respect.
  • Can stand, move, and assist with meal service for extended periods.
  • Are comfortable engaging with diverse communities.

Your Impact

By volunteering at the Dolores Shelter Program, you will:

  • Help provide a warm meal and a welcoming environment for guests.
  • Make a direct impact on individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Develop skills in teamwork, hospitality, and community service.
  • Connect with other volunteers and Mission Action staff working toward social change.
