Director of Software Engineering & DevOps

ORGANIZATION: HUMANITY PATHWAYS GLOBAL

About the Role:

We are seeking a volunteer Director of Software Engineering & DevOps to lead the development and infrastructure side of our IT department. You will help shape the technical backbone of our international youth development program from secure backend systems to youth-centered tools, while also overseeing automation, deployment pipelines, and IT research support.

This is a high-impact leadership role, ideal for someone with DevOps and engineering experience who also wants to empower social good through thoughtful, scalable tech.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and maintenance of internal tools, websites, and backend platforms
  • Set up or oversee DevOps pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub, CI/CD)
  • Guide system architecture decisions and ensure secure, scalable infrastructure
  • Support IT troubleshooting across staff tools (Google Workspace, Slack, Confluence, etc.)
  • Oversee a team of technical volunteers, including developers, researchers, and data analysts
  • Collaborate with departments to recommend and integrate the right digital solutions
  • Help document systems, code bases, and processes for scale and sustainability

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience in software engineering (backend or full stack)
  • Advanced Python Experience
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools like Jenkins, Git, Docker, or similar
  • Experience leading or collaborating in agile tech teams
  • Interest in mentoring younger coders, interns, or volunteer contributors
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Bonus: Experience with nonprofit tech, cloud services, or social innovation

Time Commitment:

  • 10-20 hours/week (flexible)
  • Remote position
