Are you seeking an opportunity to make a positive difference in your community? The UCLA Stein Eye Institute-Center for Community Outreach and Policy invites you to become a volunteer for the Fall/Winter 2025 Preschool Vision Screening program. By volunteering, you will have the chance to conduct vision screenings at local sites, helping to identify preschoolers with refractive errors or eye muscle disorders. Early detection of these treatable conditions can prevent countless challenges in their school years. Screenings typically last approximately two to four hours on Wednesday or Thursday mornings.
No experience is necessary. A formal orientation will take place in August, and informal training will be provided on-site or through partnerships with experienced volunteers. We seek passionate candidates who enjoy working with children aged 3 to 4 and are ready to commit at least 30 hours per season. The season will run weekly from mid-September to January. Volunteers may gather at the school site, with carpooling available upon request from the UCLA Stein Eye Institute.
Volunteer applications will open from April 21st to 30th. The vetting process includes a brief phone interview, general online training, background clearance, and up-to-date vaccination history.
As a Jules and Doris Stein UCLA Support Group volunteer, you can participate in our other two volunteer programs, Vision In-School and Ambassador Concierge.
