Volunteer WordPress & MailPoet Assistant (Remote)
Organization: Amateur Astronomers Association in New York City (AAA)
Commitment: 5-10 hours/week | 6 months (with potential to extend)

About Us:
The Amateur Astronomers Association (AAA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the study and appreciation of astronomy through public events, education, and award winning astrophotography. Since 1927, we've connected New Yorkers to the cosmos through lectures, classes, observing nights, local and world-wide outings, our Gateway Remote Telescopes around the world, and community outreach.

Position Overview:
We’re looking for a skilled volunteer to join our digital marketing team and assist with ongoing website and email communications. As our Digital Marketing Assistant, you'll help manage and enhance our AAA.org website and create MailPoet email campaigns to engage our members and the public.

Your work will help ensure our programs run smoothly and reach a wide audience-from beginner stargazers to seasoned astrophotographers.

Responsibilities:

  • Spend 5-10 hours a week to collaborate with the AAA Marketing Chair and team to implement updates.
  • Build and update content-rich pages on our WordPress website (AAA.org).
  • Create and schedule MailPoet email campaigns using provided content.
  • Participate in Marketing Committee internal meetings, about twice per month.
  • Ensure all communications are visually engaging and error-free.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in WordPress and MailPoet is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Interest in astronomy or nonprofit work is a bonus-but not required!
  • We prefer the volunteer to be in the US, but not required.
  • For international students in the US: Due to the low weekly hour commitment, this volunteer position alone is not eligible for post-completion OPT.

Benefits:

  • Use your skills to boost science education and public engagement.
  • Gain experience in nonprofit digital marketing, PR, and copywriting.
  • Connect with astronomers, educators, and space enthusiasts.
  • Collaborate with a passionate, creative team.
  • Enjoy a year of AAA membership, including free astronomy lectures, stargazing sessions, and more.

To Apply:
Email your resume and a short statement of interest to preston.stahly@aaa.org with the subject line: "Volunteer WordPress & MailPoet Assistant." We will reply ASAP. Clicking "I Want to Help" to apply might delay our responses.

Join us in helping New Yorkers discover the universe-one email and one webpage at a time!
