West Tuality Habitat for Humanity believes affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities and is a foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty. Our programs not only build homes, they build community.
On Saturday, April 26th, we will host our annual benefit event in Forest Grove. It's one our key community outreach and fundraising events. We need a volunteer (or volunteers) to help set up the venue and/or help at the event itself, and to pack up. You can sign up just to set up, or just to help during the even and to break down and pack up.
Volunteers who help with setup will need to be able to move chairs and tables, help hang items on walls, carry boxes of items and engage in other physical activities. Volunteers who help at the event will need to stand and greet guests as they enter, carry messages among staff members as the evening begins and we need staff in the front of the room to communicate with staff in the back of the room, etc. ("runners"). Any volunteers that can stay after the event and help staff pack up will be welcomed. All volunteers will do a lot of walking, standing and raising their arms above their heads, as well as carrying items (we can accommodate any weight limits you may have).
Volunteers need to volunteer for at least three hours.
Each volunteer will need to be prepared to drive themselves to and from the event site or otherwise arrange transportation themselves.
Setup for the event will probably start around 2 p.m. The event itself is in the evening, starting at 5. It will end and we will be packing up well before 10.
Volunteers WILL get a meal at the event. Volunteers will also leave with an understanding of what West Tuality Habitat does in Western Washington County.
This is a great role for someone interested in, or with existing experience in, public relations or event management. We are happy to sign off on any paperwork if you undertake this role for a class or if you want to do this for assigned community service.
Volunteers are asked to fill out a more detailed volunteer application, to sign a liability waiver and a photo release. Volunteers must follow our Code of Conduct, which is available on our web site. During service, volunteers are representatives of Habitat for Humanity and our mission. In addition to complying with all laws, regulations and Habitat for Humanity policies.
Serious applicants only! Please don't sign up unless you meet the requirements and really want to do this!
We already involve volunteers in most aspects of our house-building and home repairs (and you are welcomed to do that too!) - but we want the community involved and invested even more in what we do, and a way to do that is involving more volunteers. In addition, we want to keep as much of our finances as possible into those home-building and home repair activities, to support vulnerable families in Western Washington County, Oregon. We have more volunteering opportunities listed on our web site at www.westualityhabitat.org
