Drive Homebound Seniors to Essential Services through the Supporting Our Senior (SOS) Program

Join the Supporting Our Seniors (SOS) program and make a meaningful impact in the Grand Junction community by providing essential transportation services to homebound seniors. As a Supporting Our Seniors (SOS) Driver you will offer rides to seniors for medical appointments, pharmacy visits, and grocery shopping. This role is crucial in helping seniors maintain their independence and access necessary services.

Basic Requirements

  • Completion of volunteer application packet and interview.
  • Must be 21 years old.
  • Successful completion of appropriate screenings: Hilltop Non-Residential Background Check without CAPS and with MVR, TRAILS Child Abuse Registry Screening, Fingerprinting, Auto insurance card and driver’s license is collected annually, Motor vehicle check.
  • Completes program orientation (approximately 1 hour)
  • Dependable and responsible.
  • Flexible
  • Ability to lift, push or pull 20lbs.
  • Maintain client and family protected health information (HIPPA) and confidentiality.
  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • Completes and submits volunteer hours and S.O.S. mileage by the 5th , to ADRC monthly.
  • Abide by all Hilltop and S.O.S policies/procedures and Code of Conduct.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transportation Services: Provide reliable and compassionate transportation for homebound seniors to various appointments, including medical visits, pharmacy pickups, and grocery store trips. Ensure that each ride is conducted safely and comfortably, with attention to the specific needs and preferences of the senior.
  • Scheduling and Flexibility: Arrange rides on a weekly basis, with scheduling flexibility to accommodate appointments from Monday to Friday, typically between 8 AM and 5 PM. Coordinate with the Program Coordinator to confirm ride details and adjust schedules as needed.
  • Mileage and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of mileage and trip details for reimbursement purposes. Submit mileage logs and any required documentation to the program coordinator on a regular basis.
  • Safety and Vehicle Requirements: Ensure your vehicle is in good working condition and meets safety standards. Comply with program requirements, including maintaining a valid Colorado Driver’s License, current automobile insurance, and having a personal vehicle.
  • Compassionate Interaction: Provide friendly and respectful interaction with seniors, making their transportation experience as pleasant and stress-free as possible. Offer assistance with getting in and out of the vehicle, if needed, and help with carrying bags or packages.
