Position: I-Naturalist User, Visitor Center Helper, Trail Helpers, Event Setup Crew, Event closing group, Around the Park Ambassadors, and more!
Description/ Expectations: The goal for volunteers is to get help our park and JSU staff as we conduct a BioBlitz event at Little River Canyon National Preserve. There are many opportunities to help. We will need someone at our Visitor Center interacting and monitoring our quests. There is also a need for helpers at each trail station. They would be responsible for handing out equipment, information, and monitoring group missions. We also need trail helpers who do not mind helping others navigate around obstacles or guiding people back to main trails. There is a need for volunteers to either help set up or close each event each day. Lastly, we need people who are familiar with INaturalist to help others who may not be familiar with the format.
Time Commitment: We want you to enjoy our BioBlitz too! Signup to volunteer for an hour or two and then enjoy the rest of the day. Or maybe your bolder and want to volunteer one day and enjoy the other day of event. The flexibility is there, we just ask that you signup and commit to the time you request.
Uniforms: Volunteers may wear presentable pants or shorts and must wear closed toed shoes. A shirt will be provided during your volunteer time. (All shirts must be returned at the end of your shift at the Little River Canyon Center).
Hazards: This two-day event is mostly held outside, therefore you may experience some potential hazards. Some factors may be heat, rain, uneven terrain, bug bites, and sun exposure but is not limited to these things. We ask that you consider the weather and temperature each day and dress accordingly. Don't forget to hydrate before and to bring your water bottle. You may want to bring sunscreen and bug spray depending on your preference.
Where do I go?: Easy! Once you get to the Canyon Visitor center, Head inside to grab your gear, fill out your forms, and receive direction.
