Mission Statement
Society of Young Inklings equips the next generation of storytellers with the community and creative tools they need to thrive. We guide youth writers as they discover, cultivate, and share their one-of-a-kind voices.
Description
Society of Young Inklings is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth writers, ages 8-18. "When I was young and filling notebooks with stories, I wanted someone to take my dreams seriously," says Naomi Kinsman, Founder and Executive Director. "Now, I have the privilege of granting wishes like my own by pairing youth writers with professionals who provide artistic mentorship and with our publishing team who deliver real-world publishing opportunities."
We launched our programs in 2008 in the San Francisco Bay Area. Through our work (and play!) with thousands of students and educators, we developed and refined Writerly Play, our game-based approach to the creative process. Our community has stretched world-wide, and we now offer online mentorships, writers’ circles, and courses, so no matter where you live, we’re in your neighborhood.
