ORGANIZATION: Portland Art Museum

The Portland Art Museum Library and Archives are temporarily located in galleries and transition to their new spaces in May-July. Volunteers are needed to use carts to relocate the Library’s collection of books to their new space. Afterwards volunteers are needed to unbox and help set up the Archives, as well as organize unsorted materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Using carts to relocate Library books
  • Unpacking archival boxes and placing them in order on shelves in new location
  • Sorting archival materials into prelabeled folders

REQUIREMENTS

  • Attention to detail: when books are relocated they cannot fall out of order
  • Ability to maneuver into a sitting position on the floor and back up to standing. 20% of the book collection is on the bottom shelf.
  • Willingness to ask for guidance when unsure of how to proceed

TIME COMMITMENT/SCHEDULE

  • At least 3 hours per week for 3 months, to be completed between Monday and Friday, 9:30am to 12:30 or 1:30pm to 4:30pm
