Did you ever wish you had a mentor who provided you with additional guidance when you were in middle school or high school? Latinas On the Verge of Excellence (L.O.V.E.) Mentoring is now recruiting female college students and recent alumni to serve as volunteer mentors during our programs in the 2025-2026 academic year to help young female students to thrive!
The L.O.V.E. Mentoring Program supports and empowers young women to strive for success, both in school and in life, through mentorship and health interventions targeted at mental health, reproductive health, and college and career readiness.
Our volunteer mentors enjoy the following benefits:
- Take the lead in supporting young women by building relationships and serving as a positive role model.
- Mentor Training ToolKit, to prepare you in the topics of mental health and socio-emotional learning, as well as class management.
- Opportunity to work with young women of diverse backgrounds in a classroom setting while developing teamwork, communication and leadership skills.
- Opportunity to network and build professional relationships with our team leaders and our partners at networking events, discussion panels, and team gatherings.
- Professional development opportunities exclusively for mentors, like access to internship opportunities with our team and our partners.
- College credit offered with the permission of the candidate’s college or university.
- Certificate of completion and other recognitions and acknowledgements for their service.
Qualifications:
- 3.0 GPA minimum
- Be currently enrolled in a higher education institution as an undergraduate, graduate student, or be a recent graduate (2023 and beyond).
- Interested in working with young, female students of diverse backgrounds, and aligned with our values.
- Find a L.O.V.E. Program that aligns with your schedule, location commute, and language (we have programs held in English, and programs held in bilingually in Spanish for English Language Learners)
- Be available to commit to the same school program, in-person, one hour per week, for the Fall 2025 semester (Sept-Jan) or Spring 2026 semester (Feb-May), or both.
- Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures.
- Be willing to communicate regularly with program staff and take constructive feedback regarding mentoring performance.
- Be willing to complete a background check.
- Be willing to complete the onboarding process.

Ready to apply? Click the link to access the Volunteer Mentor Application 2025-2026 on our website. After completing your application, you will be added to our Mentors List and notified again in August 2025 to guide you through the onboarding process which includes:
- Watching the L.O.V.E. Information Session Video
- Attending an online recruitment interview with our Volunteer Recruitment Team,
- Completing the online L.O.V.E. Mentor Training,
- Selecting your preferred L.O.V.E. Program according to your schedule, language and location, and
- Confirm your start date!
We will initiate this Mentor Recruitment Process in August 2025, for all our mentors to be ready to start visiting our programs in late September/early October. The overall commitment for this in-person volunteer role is one hour per week for the length of one semester (September to January, or February to May), or the whole academic year, at the program location you prefer.

Description
Latinas On the Verge of Excellence - The L.O.V.E. Mentoring Program supports and empowers young women to strive both in school and in life through positive role modeling. The L.O.V.E. Mentoring Program works in partnership with NYC public schools, charter schools, colleges and universities, whose mission is to enhance the well-being of young girls and Latinx communities in New York City.
L.O.V.E. takes place each academic year from September to June, running for approximately 32 weeks. L.O.V.E. is a school-based curriculum program that consists of four core components: Mental health, Reproductive health, College access and Career readiness. Volunteer mentors meet with their mentees in partner schools on a weekly basis for an hour.
