NECHAMA - Jewish Response to Disaster is the only Jewish organization to offer sustained direct services in the US following the onset of a hurricane, tornado, flood, or other natural disaster. We are currently deployed in Western North Carolina for Hurricane Helene relief. Volunteering with NECHAMA may include removing mud from homes and clearing debris, mold remediation, stripping homes to the studs, and rebuilding. NECHAMA volunteers have already completed over 6,000 cumulative hours of volunteering, but there is still a lot to be done- and we’d love for you to join us!

Mission Statement

NECHAMA is a volunteer organization dedicated to helping families, and communities prepare for, clean up and recover from natural disasters. Our home base is located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Twin Cities area. We respond to natural disasters nation-wide.

Description

NECHAMA (Hebrew for comfort) is the Jewish community's disaster response organization. Based in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, NECHAMA has deployed thousands of volunteers to help communities clean-up after floods, tornados, and other natural disasters.

Rooted in the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), NECHAMA offers help to all people regardless of religious affiliation. We do not ask "Who are you?" but rather "How can we help?" We work shoulder-to-shoulder with homeowners in urban and rural areas, generally providing help to the most vulnerable: the elderly, the poor, single parents, and people with disabilities or other health problems.
