Literacy Volunteers of Greater Worcester is seeking volunteer tutors! Since 1973, LVGW has provided free English language education to over 12,500 adult learners from 120+ countries! Volunteer tutors work one-on-one to help an adults gain language proficiency.

Want to make a difference in your community? Join our team! Prior to being matched with a student, volunteer tutors attend an information session and complete an 18-hour tutor training. Please contact us for tutor training dates and more information: info@lvgw.org

You will:

  • Be matched with a student based on your availability
  • Volunteer 2 hours each week for 9-12 months after training completion
  • Help an adult learner reach goals through English language proficiency

Our mission is to provide social and economic empowerment through culturally compassionate English language education.

Description

With the help of our volunteer tutors, LVGW has served over 12,000 adult learners since 1973. We provide free and comprehensive training to our volunteers so they are fully equipped to plan lessons that meet the needs of a variety of adult learners.

Tutoring and increased English proficiency helps our students:

  • develop greater self-esteem
  • exercise rights and responsibilities for themselves and their families
  • access job information and pursue career advancement
  • participate meaningfully in the community
  • become lifelong learners

Our volunteers must:

  • be at least 18 years of age and have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • demonstrate oral and written fluency in the English language
  • demonstrate good character and a desire to help others learn
