Mission Statement

The purpose and mission of WBAA is to empower, inspire and instill confidence in underrepresented youth in the field of aviation, including young women and people of color, through education and mentorship honoring the pioneering legacy of Willa Brown.

Description

Willa Brown Aviation Academy is now in its 5th year of operation. We were founded by 3 airline pilots who recognized the lack of diversity among airline pilots as well as pilots in general. Our goal is to introduce the many opportunities in aviation to youth from underrepresented communities with our 3 programs-Wings to Fly, Camp Willa and Madison Youth Aviation Club. Wings to Fly is a one day introductory program that gives each youth a one-on-one experience flight experience. we offer 4-5 events throughout the summer flying season. Camp Willa is a weeklong non-residential summer camp which introduces youth to many facets of aviation with yours, field trips, ground instruction and a flight. MYAC is a monthly program for "graduates" of one of our other 2 programs who would like to continue their aviation learning with field trips, speakers and projects. All of our programs are offered at no cost to youth or their families.
We have served over 150 youth since our inception. Many have gone on to pursue flying interests and STEM programs. Our volunteers and board members continue to mentor and encourage our youth. We will soon be implementing a flight scholarship program.
