What You’ll Do:
- Engage 2-3 members currently diagnosed with moderate to late-stage Alzheimer’s disease in simple, meaningful activities like:
- Playing music or singing together
- Joining members for walks or relaxing outdoors
- Reading aloud, chatting or reminiscing over water, tea, juice, etc.
- Helping members with arts/crafts/puzzles (coloring, puzzles, word games, easy word searches)
- Sharing hobbies & easy task completion opportunities (folding baby clothes, looking at old magazines, sorting objects)
- Visit more introverted members in their apartments and engage in 1:1s, building a relationship with them over time.
Why It Matters:
Small moments of connection brighten residents’ days and help them feel valued. It will also help the Life Enrichment team to reach and engage more of our members who have dementia every day. No experience is needed - the Recreation Specialist will help train you to feel more comfortable. Just bring your kindness and willingness to be present - volunteering with people with dementia will change your life!

Description
The Friendly Home, founded in 1849, is a skilled nursing home in Brighton providing 24-hour care, rehabilitation, memory care and hospice care. We are a non-profit, non-denominational, mission-driven organization devoted to providing the highest quality care and services for our residents, whom we refer to as Members to foster a sense of belonging and community.
The Friendly Home is part of the Friendly Senior Living continuum of care which also includes Cloverwood Senior Living, an active independent living community in Pittsford; Glenmere at Cloverwood, which offers assisted living, enhanced assisted living and memory care; Linden Knoll, an independent senior living apartment community in Brighton; and the Lovejoy Transitional Care Center which provides short-term rehabilitative care.
