Main Goals for Position:
Volunteers work with Whiskeytown National Recreation Area’s Interpretation and Education team to provide curriculum-based programming for K-12 students.
Major Duties:
· Volunteering up to 10 hours a week, usually on weekday mornings though schedules vary
· Supporting students’ safety during programs by keeping them on trail and following program instructions
· Leading sections of field trip programming with necessary training and preparation
· Assist Education staff in developing and improving materials and content for education programming
· Keeping students engaged and interested in field trip content
· Positively represent the National Park Service as a member of our education team
Knowledge and Skills Required:
· Experience leading or teaching students.
· Basic knowledge of park resources and services.
· Capable of dealing with stressful situations in a professional manner.
Physical Demands:
Moderate physical effort is required for this position. There will be some lifting and moving of programming supplies and frequent walking on uneven trails.
Work Environment:
Various outdoor settings in Whiskeytown National Recreation area. Volunteers should be prepared to conducting programming in a range of weather including cold rain and high heat.
