Visitor Center Volunteer
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks have volunteer opportunities available to assist the Division of Interpretation, Education, and Partnerships at visitor centers in multiple subdistricts of the parks. In Kings Canyon, we are looking for assistance at the Kings Canyon Visitor Center in Grant Grove. In Sequoia, we are looking for assistance at the Foothills Visitor Center in the Foothills, as well as the Giant Forest Museum and Lodgepole Visitor Center in Lodgepole.
Details:
These positions assist front-line operations by providing quality interpretive and learning opportunities for park visitors to connect to the natural and cultural histories of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Training will be provided. Duties include:
- Welcoming visitors as a friendly steward of the National Park Service.
- Providing Park orientation, trip planning, and trail information to the public at busy visitor contact stations.
- Providing information and safety messages to the public. Advising Park staff of potential resource threats.
- Providing informal interpretive services to the public at touch tables and on trails.
- Ensuring safe work practices and actively promoting workplace safety.
- Continuing to expand knowledge of park resources through a variety of sources (reading, websites, and on-the-job training).
- Other duties as assigned and mutually agreed upon.
Locations:
The Kings Canyon Visitor Center is located approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from the larger cities of Fresno and Visalia.
The Foothills Visitor Center is next to the town of Three Rivers and approximately 45 minutes from Visalia.
The Giant Forest Museum and Lodgepole Visitor Center are approximately 1 hour from Three Rivers and 1 hour 45 minutes from Visalia.

Housing and Service Hours Expectations:
Housing is extremely limited from May through September due to an influx of NPS seasonal employees. During this period, we are recruiting for those that do not require housing. Expected hours of service are flexible, ranging from one day a month to multiple days a week.
In our off-season from October through April, housing may be available for those volunteering at least 32 hours a week.
Please make sure it is clear in your application when you are available, how many hours you are able to work, and whether or not you are interested in housing. Only those volunteers available October through April for 32 hours per week will be considered for housing.
Selection:
Qualified volunteers will be interviewed, and references will be checked. Please provide at least three references. Volunteers may be asked to undergo a federal background check.
