Volunteer at a unique high school summer program

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: OAKLAND SERVES

Help high school students get back on track to graduation. Mentor at Summer HAcK - a unique 9th/10th grade summer school that includes academics and creative projects.

This OUSD-sponsored HAcK (Healing and Academics 4 Kids) takes place at Life Academy in Oakland. It provides English, Math, Biology and History credit recovery. Community partners such as Youth Beats, Center for Art Esteem, and BAY-Peace lead programs to encourage real world skills, infusing mindfulness, social-emotional development and expanding literacy.

We encourage volunteers to work the whole 17 day (half day) program, but a minimum of 20 hours is requested. Applications accepted through May 11.

Give a gift to a student - re-engage them in school. Give a gift to yourself - support youth education!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to improve the future of high school youth by increasing their success in high school today. Students that struggle to stay on track in high school are at risk of dropping out. We put mentors in high school classes to work with students needing extra support to keep them on the path to graduation. Don't let the door shut on these students. Join us today!

Description

Since 2018, Oakland Serves has been helping high school students graduate, focusing on underserved and minority communities in which students may face a variety of challenges that impede their success. We work with OUSD, with schools and teachers to identify where our mentors can have the biggest impact on student achievement. We match our volunteer mentors with whole classrooms and with individual students as needed to increase the ability of as many students as possible to progress to graduation.
