Position: Mentorship Community Manager (Volunteer)
Location: Remote, US-based organization
Time commitment: 5-10 hours per week
Duration: Min 6 months
Wevise is a US-based nonprofit founded in 2022. Our mission is to make careers in the technology industry more attainable and create more diverse and inclusive tech communities through equitable access to mentorship, education, and career opportunities. We're a team of committed volunteers from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about leveling the playing field in tech (and beyond).
Our first program, which launched in June 2023, is a mentorship platform for those looking for personal or professional guidance in the technology industry, with a focus on those from disadvantaged communities or with additional barriers.
We believe in mentoring-so much so that we have brought a paired programming methodology to each of our roles. For every position, there is an expert mentor and an experienced mentee who will collaborate with and learn from the mentor along the way.
In this role, you will be the heartbeat of our mentorship ecosystem, orchestrating meaningful connections within our digital community space. You'll nurture our platform's growth while ensuring it remains inclusive, supportive, and aligned with our mission to democratize access to tech career pathways.
This is not a paid position. This is a volunteer opportunity to work with a talented and passionate team of professionals with a sense of purpose.
Key Responsibilities
Community Cultivation & Growth:
- Develop strategies to attract, engage, and retain both mentors and mentees within our digital community platform
- Create a vibrant community atmosphere where members feel valued, supported, and motivated to participate
- Design community rituals, celebrations, and touchpoints that build a sense of belonging and shared purpose
- Implement structured onboarding journeys that orient new members to community expectations and opportunities
Digital Community Management:
- Moderate community spaces, ensuring conversations remain constructive, inclusive, and aligned with our values
- Create engagement prompts, discussion topics, and interactive activities that stimulate meaningful exchanges
- Monitor community health metrics and develop strategies to address engagement gaps
Program Measurement & Optimization:
- Establish clear KPIs for community health, mentorship effectiveness, and member satisfaction
- Implement feedback mechanisms to continually gather insights from community members
- Analyze engagement patterns to identify opportunities for optimization
- Prepare regular reports on community growth, engagement, and impact metrics
Requirements
- Passion for building inclusive communities and supporting underrepresented groups in tech
- Experience participating in or managing online communities (formal or informal)
- Strong communication skills and ability to create welcoming digital spaces
- Basic organization and planning skills for coordinating simple community events
- Empathetic approach to understanding diverse member needs and challenges
- Self-motivated with ability to manage your volunteer time effectively
- Interest in mentorship and professional development in the technology sector
- Comfortable using basic online platforms and communication tools
Impact You'll Make
- Help create pathways for underrepresented individuals to access careers in the technology industry
- Build and nurture a vibrant community of mentors and mentees who support each other's growth
- Contribute to shaping a more diverse and inclusive tech ecosystem
- Make a tangible difference in the lives of those facing barriers to entering and thriving in tech
We welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, particularly those who understand firsthand the barriers to entering and thriving in the technology industry.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to make careers in the technology industry more attainable through equitable access to mentorship, education, and career opportunities.
Description
Wevise is on a mission to level the playing field in tech. Through direct programming and partnerships with nonprofits supporting underserved and disadvantaged people to enter and advance in the technology industry, we provide access to mentors, training and educational opportunities, and careers.
Our goals:
*Support underserved and disadvantaged people to enter and thrive in the technology industry
*Partner with organizations who need mentorship and career placement programs to complement their main programming, helping them to better serve their beneficiaries
*Support companies in finding the right, often diverse, candidates
Our main service is a free, on-demand mentorship platform that allows people to request mentorship based on specific needs, interests, background, and experience. Mentors and mentees can specify their interest in short, medium, and long-term mentorship.
Mentors choose one or more mentees that resonate with them from a curated list of five mentorship requests. Although the platform is open and free to all, we are focused on supporting underserved and disadvantaged people. Mentors and mentees are matched with people who have overcome similar barriers, such as LGBTQIA+, veteran, first-generation student, person of color, person with a disability, single parent, etc. We also provide custom tags for nonprofit partners so that mentors can mark a preference for mentoring someone from one of those programs.
