On Saturday, May 17th from 6:00-8:00PM at the NonProfit Center in Boston, the Student Clinic for Immigrant Justice (SCIJ) is holding its annual Gala and we need your help to make it possible! SCIJ is seeking volunteers who can help during the event with tasks such as:
- Set-Up and Breakdown: Providing support in setting up the event and breaking everything down at the end of the event.
- Explainers: Helping explain the various activities at the tables we have set up at the event. For example, we have a map where everyone marks down where they were born and where they live now so we'd need someone explaining this to people.
- Ushers: To help direct people to the right location
- Photography and/or videography: Helping us capture visuals from the night (we have a photo guide list).
- Registration: Helping check people in.
- Tech Support: Making sure the audio, slideshow, etc. run smoothly
We're also open to other forms of help if you think we might be missing something!

Mission Statement
The Student Clinic for Immigrant Justice (SCIJ) is a youth-led organization fighting for the safety of immigrants by training and mobilizing college students to organize for local change and to provide pro bono representation to asylum seekers.
Description
APPROACH. SCIJ’s three-pronged approach﹘train, mobilize, organize﹘aims to push back against the imbalance of justice in the courts and organize for long-term change through community power building. SCIJ’s focus on collaboration by partnering with colleges, pairings students with attorneys, and working with sister organizations builds on this same goal by developing a network that can meet immediate needs while also leveraging collective power for systemic change.
MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS. Through collaborative partnerships SCIJ developed with Worcester State University (WSU) and Brown University, SCIJ has trained 49 students, most of whom are immigrants or first-generation Americans, women or gender-diverse people, and/or people of color. SCIJ’s trained students have:
- Provided pro bono representation to 50 asylum seekers;
- Connected 79 immigrants with social services such as housing and food assistance;
- Won campaigns in MA and RI to ensure driver’s licenses are available to people regardless of immigration status; and
- Received the New England Innovation Award.
