Do you ever feel like you are constantly giving to others as an employee, parent of guardian, student or even as a membe of your community? We often make withdrawals from our emotional bank accounts with good intentions but find that we don't always get deposits in return. When this happens, resentment can creep into many aspects of our lives. Showing kindness to others through volunteering is a means of self-care. Your emotional bank account will grow when you touch the life of another individual and this will pay dividends for years to come.
At Gentiva Hospice, we are actively recruiting volunteers to spend time with individuals who are nearing the end of their life journeys. Our mostly senior patients reside in nursing homes and assisted living and memory care facilities, as well as, in their homes. There are no time or scheduling requirements as a hospice volunteer. You can volunteer in accordance with your interests and availabilty. Whether you spend and hour sitting quietly with a patient, coloring a picture, or just chatting, you will profoundly affect their life, as well as, your own.
