ORGANIZATION: Calaveras County Libraries

Calaveras Library Literacy Programs supports incarcerated individuals to obtain skills to obtain their GED, improve their literacy and to be successful upon release. This position will help support current inmates in reaching their personal education goals.

This position will require support within the local county confinement working with vetted low level offenders one / two days a week for 2 hours. A background check and additional training will be required.

The Calaveras County Literacy Programs strives to meet our learners where they are at and provide learner led support to adults in our community who would like to achieve more. This support will encourage a positive relationship with the community.

According to the Center for American Progress, (Alpha Ciallo May 28, 2020), "Adult illiteracy directly affects an individual’s employment options, likelihood to live in poverty, likelihood to be incarcerated, access to adequate health care and health outcomes, and life expectancy. Generational illiteracy makes it increasingly difficult to escape these circumstances, and millions of Americans face this reality every day."
