Africa Health Organisation (AHO) Role Description

The core function of the role is to identify and recruit new members of the Africa Health Organisation (AHO). AHO is an international health agency that provides health and social care in Africa and the Diaspora. We are looking to recruit new members to increase our network. Our members come from diverse backgrounds and geographical areas.

We are looking for Membership Recruitment & Support Volunteers from Africa and Diaspora, starting in the UK, USA, and Europe. In Africa, we seek volunteers to recruit members from local authorities, businesses, students from universities, colleges and high schools, faith and religious, community-based, local and international NGOs, regional organisations and individuals. In the UK and the Diaspora, we are looking for members from local authorities such as Public Health Directors from every county and district, Diversity Officers from every city and town, Integrated care boards (ICBs), students from universities, colleges and high schools, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) organisations, groups, individuals and communities, charities and voluntary organisations, religious, community-based NGOs, business and individuals interested in AHO mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruit members for AHO in Africa and the Diaspora.
  • Design AHO Membership Package and Materials.
  • Identifying geographic areas and sectors provides opportunities for membership growth.
  • Leading creative new member recruitment campaigns.
  • Working closely with the IT Team to integrate the recruitment plan with existing member retention efforts.
  • Working with the Membership Team to create effective membership recruitment materials.
  • Creating a sales recruitment plan, including systematic follow-up with potential members.
  • Assisting members with questions about membership, joining, renewals, and benefits.
  • Representing and advocating the role of the organisation to existing and prospective members.
  • Creating and updating the member database, in-house renewal processing, file update and maintenance and other tasks as assigned.
  • Assign codes to membership categories to make it easy to find during the search.

Education, Skills and Experience

  • A qualification in any subject such as marketing, sales, business studies, economics, journalism, media studies, social media, customer services, CRM certification, database, ICT, communication, international development, medicine, health and social care, global health, political sciences, social sciences, engineering, HRM, sciences or equivalent at university, college or distance learning.
  • At least two (2) or more years in sales involving in-person recruitment, cold calling, and follow-up are required. A proven record of sales success is also required.
  • Must excel at meeting and talking with prospective members, building rapport with prospective members, and professionally closing sales.
  • Must be creative in developing new areas and methods for member recruitment and implementing them.
  • Energetic, positive, professional, and self-motivated personality with adequate oral and written communication skills required.
  • Experience within an association membership department specialising in sales and membership recruitment is a plus.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong skills in process management, database design and management, customer service and project management, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Must have a good sense of humour and interest in advancing the AHO mission
  • Excellent in using social media platforms to connect with people, create viral videos, etc
