We are pleased to offer a student volunteer/unpaid internship position for undergraduate and graduate students during our open season. These positions offer exceptional opportunities for students to gain experience in the field of public history and museum studies. Student volunteers and interns will assist National Park Service staff by providing tours, writing interpretive media, and preparing for special events.

Interpretation and Visitor Services Student Volunteer/Intern Position Description:
Our student volunteers and interns working in interpretation and visitor services will perform a variety of tasks while assisting NPS staff in the day-to-day operations of the site. Duties include welcoming visitors, making tour reservations, answering phones, facilitating bookstore sales, keeping statistics, introducing and showing the site film, and providing information and orientation to visitors.
Students in these positions will also conduct formal and informal interpretive tours. They will receive training in interpretation and then create a 30-minute, guided tour of John F. Kennedy’s birthplace based on original research. Student volunteers and interns may also assist in the creation of interpretive media such as brochures, posters, and web features. We also encourage students in these positions to create their own projects and plan special events. They will be provided with volunteer uniforms and may qualify for travel reimbursement.
Dates: late May through mid August; option to continue working through October 31, 2025
Time commitment: 2 days/16 hours per week minimum
Where: John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site, 83 Beals Street, Brookline, MA
Academic Credit: Available if interested and offered through school
Pay: Unpaid
