Hours: 15-20 hours per week (flexible scheduling)
Reports To: Executive Director, American Red Cross of Southeastern Michigan

Position Overview:

The American Red Cross of Southeastern Michigan is seeking a motivated and passionate intern to support the Executive Director in community outreach, capacity building, communications, and event coordination. This internship is ideal for students interested in nonprofit management, community engagement, and humanitarian work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in community outreach efforts to strengthen relationships with local organizations, businesses, and community groups.

  • Support capacity-building initiatives, including volunteer recruitment and engagement strategies.

  • Work on communications and marketing projects, such as social media content creation, newsletter development, and storytelling.

  • Assist in the planning and execution of Sound the Alarm, a nationwide Red Cross program that provides free smoke alarm installations and fire safety education in at-risk communities.

  • Coordinate logistics and volunteer support for community events and preparedness activities.

  • Research and identify opportunities for partnership development to expand Red Cross programming.

  • Provide administrative support as needed, including data entry, reporting, and scheduling.

Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university, preferably in a field related to nonprofit management, communications, public administration, or political science.

  • Strong interest in the humanitarian mission of the American Red Cross.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience with social media, marketing, or event planning is a plus.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfort with learning new technology.
