Do For One is a relationship building program that brings isolated people with disabilities in NYC into greater community life through the power of one-on-one, freely given, enduring relationships.
Join us for our next In-PersonIntroductory Session on Monday evening, May 12th, from 7:15-9pm at a venue in Midtown East (Manhattan).
At this orientation session, you will:
- Hear stories of transformative relationships between people with and without disabilities, and learn about how you can get involved.
- Gain a deeper understanding of the history and philosophy behind Do For One’s mission.
- Learn about Do For One’s approach in addressing the core issue of devaluation that people with disabilities face and why personal and freely-given relationships is our response. There will be extended time for Q+A and mingling at the end.
For those interested in becoming matched into a one-on-one supportive relationship with a person with a disability, please note that in 2025, our primary focus is recruiting people with disabilities living in Manhattan and West/Central Queens, and a small number in Brooklyn.
- We welcome Advocates living anywhere to get involved, but please know that it is less likely that you will be able to be matched with someone living outside of those areas.
Process:
- Click "RSVP" to sign up!
- You will be emailed the exact address and reminders leading up to the event.
Please Note: This info session is geared towards potential volunteers who do not have immediate plans to move out of the NYC area. If you are a person with a disability interested in learning more about our relationship building program, email info@doforone.org so we can set up a personal phone call with you.

About DO FOR ONE NYC

Mission Statement
We are a relationship-building program that brings isolated people into greater community life. We selectively match one person with disabilities ('Partner’) with another person who enjoys a more socially included life ('Advocate’). We then support voluntary advocates as they strive to understand, represent, and respond to the interests of their partner. Our vision is a future where the world is keenly aware of the problems people with disabilities face. That knowledge prompts radical personal action to address those needs. Inclusion replaces exclusion, as communities grow in strength and diversity.
Description
Through Do For One, you will have the opportunity to be selectively matched into a one-to-one supportive relationship with one adult who has a disability.
We are looking for ordinary New Yorkers who are interested in learning more about becoming a freely given, enduring friend and supportive neighbor (called an "Advocate") to one person who has been marginalized in society due to having a disability.
