Redwood National and State Parks is comprised of Redwood National Park, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, and Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park. Throughout the North and South Districts of REDW, there are approximately 150 miles of trails.
The primary duties of a Trails Crew Volunteer surround ongoing brushing and clearing of park trails at the trailhead and throughout the corridor. Various hand tools will be utilized for this work with thorough training provided. Volunteers will support Trails staff on their workdays which extend from Monday-Thursday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM. Flexibility in scheduling is possible. Some duties of a Trails Crew Volunteer follow:
· Performing rehabilitation on trail paths continuously impacted.
· Resurfacing trails with various materials.
· Drain clearing.
· Vegetation management.
· Moving aggregate.
· Other projects dependent on current season.
· Volunteer safety is of utmost priority. You will be expected to follow standard operation procedures and overall NPS standards.
Qualifications:
· Experience working on trails is preferred but not required
· A strong work ethic
· Ability to lift, move, and pull up to 25 pounds, and up to 125 pounds with assistance
Your support as a volunteer is monumental to our overarching goal within the Trails Division of having an active restoration of the park’s resources to ensure safety and enjoyment of various trail routes.
