SPCP Planting

Celebrate Earth Day 2025 a little early and join Pierce Conservation District and the City of Tacoma from 10 AM - 2 PM on Saturday, April 19th, for a planting party at the newly-renovated McKinley Overlook in Tacoma! Volunteers will have the best view in town as they help install native and pollinator-friendly plants in the site's new garden beds.

  • Check out the new walking path, meet new neighbors and friends, and admire the vista while helping to create valuable urban wildlife habitat.

For your safety and comfort, please bring:

  • A full water bottle!
  • Clothing that can get dirty. We recommend wearing layers and checking the forecast the day-of so you can dress for the weather.
  • Sturdy, closed-toed shoes (please no sandals, flats, or crocks)
  • Your favorite pair of garden gloves and/or trowel. (Optional - Loaner gloves and tools will be available)

Description

The Pierce Conservation District works with the community to improve water quality, promote sustainable agriculture, create thriving habitat, and build a just and healthy food system for all, through education, community engagement, and financial and technical assistance. Our district’s roots run deep in our community. Created in 1949 as part of a national response to the ecological disaster of the 1930s known as the Dust Bowl, we have worked for over 75-years to help local farmers, cities, and citizens address numerous sustainability challenges. Conserving our natural resources for future generations gets more difficult with each year, making the work of Pierce Conservation District more important now than ever.
