The Mentoring and Reading Program -Vocabulary Curator Volunteer will assist the WoMen of Connections Ministry team by reading articles of the assigned country in North and South America, identifying key vocabulary words, and creating vocabulary lists to help enhance literacy skills of the participants. The ideal candidate will be a motivated high school student with an interest in reading, language development, and community service.
This opportunity is ideal for students that need volunteer hours for college application, who enjoy reading, have strong organizational skills, are self-motivated, and are passionate about supporting educational growth in their community.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled high-school student with interest in reading, language, and literacy
Willingness to provide parent /or responsible adult signed permission document.
Excellent communication skills, great at talking and writing clearly.
Ability to work independently, organizing tasks and manage time effectively
Understand or willing to learn Google Workspace (Docs, Forms, etc.)
Passion for helping others and continuing to the community
Responsibilities
Read assigned articles and materials of various various countries in North and South America and around the world as part of the Mentoring and Reading Program
Identify important vocabulary words and phrases from each article
Write clear definitions and context for the vocabulary words to aid comprehension
Collaborate with other volunteers and program coordinators to ensure accuracy and consistency in vocabulary lists
Help maintain records and documentation of vocabulary lists and reading materials
Attend and participate in virtual meetings and volunteer training as required
Assist with outreach and communication to local partners when needed
Complete required volunteer hours and maintain accurate tracking of time worked
Support program staff with related tasks as needed
