Volunteers will assist with visitor use management by counting vehicles in busy parking lots and parked along State Route 24 and by counting people on popular trails, both on a timed schedule. There are 2-3 parking areas and there are 5 trail count locations within 1.5 miles or less of paved roads. Trail difficulty varies from walking in a wash bottom, to having a rockier and steeper incline per location.
A total of 144 volunteer hours is available. Volunteers may choose to participate for the full timeframe of the study (May 9 -May 26) or may choose to volunteer for just a day or two. Regardless of the number of days a volunteer chooses to participate for, volunteers will work shifts of 4 hours (from 9a-2p).
