Goals for Position


  • Document Park resources: Capture scenic and recreational shots of parks and open spaces.
  • Support volunteer activities and events: Photograph volunteer activities, special events, and other specialized requests.
  • Provide visual content for various purposes: Utilize photos for social media, newsletters, websites, and training materials

Working Environment and Safety Considerations


  • Physical demands: Work involves light to moderate physical effort, including walking, hiking, and standing for extended periods.
  • Outdoor conditions: Exposure to adverse weather (hot, cold, rain, snow), insects (ticks, mosquitoes, stinging insects), and poisonous plants.
  • Safety precautions: Follow safety guidelines and be aware of potential hazards like uneven terrain and tripping hazards.
  • Work location: Varies within the St. Croix watershed, potentially including outdoor environments.

Description of Duties


  • Photograph and videography: Assist in documenting programs, events, and park resources.
  • Obtain photo release forms: Get necessary permission from visitors captured in photos.
  • Review and submit photos: Ensure photo quality and submit using the preferred method.
  • Wear the park uniform: Adhere to the dress code while volunteering.
  • Track and report volunteer time: Maintain accurate records and submit monthly reports.
  • Represent SACN and the Conservancy professionally: Uphold the organization's values and follow safety guidelines.

Qualifications


  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Additional Items


  • An introduction to park resources and volunteer training will be provided by park staff.
  • The park has cameras (still and video) that the volunteer may use on-site.
  • The volunteer may use their own equipment if preferred. The National Park Service and Wild Rivers Conservancy are not responsible for any costs or liability for the volunteer’s use of personal equipment.
  • Volunteer must supply appropriate footwear (boots), long pants, weather-appropriate outerwear, sun protection, and insect protection.
  • Volunteers will have access to potential training opportunities that develop knowledge and skills and enhance service to the Riverway.
  • This volunteer will have the opportunity to work with the public in an outdoor setting and share appreciation for the diversity and beauty of the Saint Croix watershed. They will share the satisfaction of helping others and providing opportunities for people to have an enjoyable, educational, and safe park experience. They will work alongside staff and other volunteers and have opportunities to build knowledge of important park resources in a friendly, welcoming environment.
  • Volunteers who have accumulated 250 hours of service can request a National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass that provides access to more than 2,000 recreation areas managed by five federal agencies (valid for 12 months after issue).

Photography Use Conditions


  • Any pictures taken while acting as a volunteer become property of SACN and the Conservancy, Rights Reserved. The photographer will receive photo credit on the webpage, social media, or other media where it is placed.
  • SACN and/or the Conservancy may, at its discretion, crop, reduce, enlarge, darken, lighten, place text over, or otherwise alter the image to suit the form of media for which the photo is being used.
  • SACN and/or the Conservancy is under no obligation to use or publish any submitted photograph that does not meet standards of quality or subject matter.
  • SACN and/or the Conservancy agrees not to sell any submitted image or give permission to anyone to use an image without prior written permission from the photographer.
