Service Details:


  • Volunteers will work at river landings along the St. Croix River.
  • Shift length and frequency will vary depending on the site, but in general will be 3-4 hours on Fridays and Saturdays beginning in June and ending in September.
  • Volunteers are asked to contribute at least 8 hours per month.
  • Volunteers will work alongside staff, interns, partner agencies, and fellow volunteers, and have opportunities to build knowledge of important park resources in a friendly, welcoming environment.

Goals for Position:


  • Conduct visual watercraft inspections at boat launches along staff, interns, and fellow volunteers.
  • Educate the public about the threats of aquatic invasive species and how to prevent their spread.

Working Environment and Safety Considerations:


  • Physical demands: Work involves light to moderate physical activity, including standing for long periods, walking, kneeling, bending, and squatting.
  • Outdoor conditions: Work may be performed in various weather conditions, including hot temperatures, rain, high humidity, and exposure to thorny or irritant plants.
  • Safety protocols: Volunteers must follow safety guidelines, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, maintain awareness of personal surroundings including moving trucks and trailers, and review the attached Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Training: All volunteers must receive training on safety, customer service and booth etiquette, de-escalation, and aquatic invasive species inspection.

Description of Duties:


  • Conduct watercraft inspections at boat launches under the guidance of staff.
  • Educate river users about invasive species identification, threats, and preventive measures.
  • Work with various partners, including local, state, and federal government agencies.
  • Contribute positively to the team environment and maintain a safe work environment.
