Adopt A Forest needs volunteers to keep Michigan’s public land clean. Do you have a passion for the outdoors and are willing to put in the effort to help keep public land clean for the generations to come. Volunteering with Adopt-a- Forest will have you in the woods restoring nature by picking up garbage illegally dumped on public lands. The work is dirty and varies in effort depending on the size and debris within the illegal dumpsite. Dumpsites can consist of one or two bags of trash all the way up to multiple truckloads of debris. The location of many sites are remote and better suited for trucks and ORVS. If this interests you read more at Volunteer With Adopt-a-Forest.

Mission Statement

We are committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural and cultural resources for current and future generations.

Description

The Adopt-a-Forest volunteer cleanup program was established to protect Michigan's forests in 1991. The program shares the importance of clean and healthy forests, improves recycling and responsible trash disposal and works to stop illegal dumping.

Led by the Department of Natural Resources, the program is a partnership of the DNR, Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy and Michigan-based USDA Forest Service.

In the program's history, more than 2 million acres of forest land have been cleaned up, with 100,000 tires removed and tens of thousands of cubic yards of trash properly disposed of. This work is critical to protecting forest lands for future generations.
