The Junior Interpreter Program allows young people in tenth through twelfth grade to volunteer at Museum of York County.

What do the Junior Interpreters do?
  • Gain natural history knowledge, leadership skills, customer service experience, and practice with public speaking.

  • Provide educational activities for visitors to Museum of York County.
  • Participate in selected programs at the Museum of York County.

    Students must apply and be accepted into the program.

Description

The Culture & Heritage Museums is a family of museums in York County, SC, which includes Historic Brattonsville, the McCelvey Center, the Museum of York County and the Main Street Children's Museum in Old Town Rock Hill.

Historic Brattonsville presents the history of the Scots-Irish and African-Americans in the South Carolina upcountry largely through preserving and interpreting the story of the Bratton community from the 1760s to the late 19th century. Experience living history, including the African American story, at this 775-acre Revolutionary War site. Explore the Bratton Plantation, owned and lived on by three generations of the Bratton family.
Explore the Carolina Piedmont and its connections to the world at the Museum of York County! Our Naturalist Center has more than 2000 specimens to guide your learning adventures. We have a state of the art digital planetarium. We offer award-winning exhibitions and programs on a variety of natural history topics.

  • 40 hours per year
  • Space in the program is limited. Students apply through a written application, letter of reference, and a group interview. Written applications are accepted each spring and are due by April 1st.
