Position Overview
The Human Rights & Advocacy Fellow will research how militarization contributes to human rights violations, including the impact of war, defense spending, and police militarization on marginalized communities. The fellow will develop advocacy materials to support PEP’s campaigns and work with coalitions, activists, and policymakers to push for demilitarization and accountability.
This opportunity is ideal for graduate students, recent graduates, or upper-level undergraduates interested in human rights, international law, social justice, and public policy.
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Investigate human rights abuses related to war, military interventions, and domestic militarization.
✅ Analyze U.S. defense policies and their effects on vulnerable populations globally.
✅ Research and report on the impact of police militarization on civil liberties and marginalized communities.
✅ Develop policy briefs, reports, and advocacy materials highlighting human rights concerns.
✅ Monitor legislative proposals and international agreements on human rights and militarization.
✅ Assist in writing blog posts, articles, and op-eds to raise public awareness.
✅ Engage with advocacy groups and coalitions working on human rights and peace initiatives.
✅ Support PEP’s public education campaigns, including webinars and social media advocacy.
Preferred Qualifications:
✔ Background in human rights, international relations, law, political science, or a related field.
✔ Strong research and writing skills with experience in human rights documentation or policy analysis.
✔ Passion for social justice, peacebuilding, and demilitarization advocacy.
✔ Ability to translate complex policies into accessible advocacy materials.
✔ Experience with international human rights law, policy research, or grassroots organizing is a plus.
✔ Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively.
