Volunteer Treasurer (CFO) - Ace Makerspace

Location: Hybrid (Oakland, CA), but willing to consider fully remote volunteers
Commitment: 1 year, estimated 10-15 hours per month
Compensation: Volunteer (unpaid)

Ace Makerspace is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Treasurer. This volunteer leadership role is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about financial stewardship, community building, and supporting a nonprofit makerspace. The Treasurer is a dedicated officer who works collaboratively with our Board of Directors.

About Ace Makerspace

Ace Makerspace is a nonprofit community workshop in Oakland, CA, providing tools, education, and a creative environment for makers, artists, and entrepreneurs. We are a membership-driven organization committed to fostering access to technology, innovation, and hands-on learning.

Role Overview

As Treasurer, you will oversee the financial health of Ace Makerspace, ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency. You will work closely with the Board of Directors and key volunteers to manage budgets, financial reporting, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Oversight: Maintain accurate financial records, ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and manage budgeting.

  • Reporting: Provide monthly financial reports to the Board and guide financial decision-making.

  • Bookkeeping & Banking: Oversee cash flow, reconcile bank accounts, and manage QuickBooks (or equivalent).

  • Fund Management: Support fundraising efforts by tracking donations, grants, and expenditures.

  • Compliance & Taxes: Ensure timely filings of tax documents and compliance with nonprofit financial regulations.

  • Collaboration: Work with other board members, volunteers, and external financial professionals to support the organization’s sustainability.

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience with nonprofit finance, accounting, or bookkeeping (QuickBooks experience a plus).

  • Understands financial best practices and reporting for nonprofits.

  • Is detail-oriented, organized, and proactive.

  • Values transparency and ethical financial management.

  • Can commit to attending bi-weekly board meetings and providing financial oversight.

Time Commitment & Expectations
  • Approximately 10-15 hours per month, with flexibility.

  • Attendance at bi-weekly board meetings (hybrid).

  • Participation in strategic planning meetings (in-person)

  • Minimum one-year commitment.

Ace Monster Toys dba Ace Makerspace is a 501(c)(3) nonĀ­profit member supported organization founded in 2010. We support traditional makers and craftspeople as well as hackers both digital and material. Our community brings together people of diverse skill levels by providing resources and culture to build networks; co-work; and engage in projects that benefit individuals and the community at large. The resources we develop include spaces and a wide variety of tools and supplies to support making and learning.
