Description
Legacy volunteers describe their work as rewarding, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally meaningful and purposeful. Here are some ways that volunteers are utilized. Our volunteers play an integral role in our organization. They help improve the qulaity of life of our patients and families Some typical things volunteers can do include reading to the patient, writing down memories, painting fingernails, and other activities. Volunteers can display their talents by singing to patients or playing instruments for them. Listening and giving reassurances to families is one of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering. Other ways volunteers can help include clerical work in the office. They may file, answer phone calls, or address envelopes. They also call our patients before the weekend to make sure they have everything they need before the weekend comes. Other volunteers prefer helping families and loved ones on their journey through the grieving process. This may be done through writing letters to the family and loved ones, visiting the family, making calls, assisting in the organization of support groups for those going through a loss, or going to funerals. Finally, Legacy hospice has created a No One Dies Alone. These volunteers are committed to providing a caring and comforting presence at the end of life. We believe everyone should receive compassion and support at the end of life and never be left alone.
