Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Park Ambassadors are volunteers who serve on the frontline, assisting visitors and staff, offering current information and orientation to the public, and helping visitors recreate safely while visiting the park. Park Ambassadors will assist visitors in a variety of environments, such as visitor centers, parking areas, trailheads, events, and other scheduled locations. Volunteers may work in teams of two or more, stationed outdoors at pop-up visitor contact stations at popular locations, such as waterfalls or beaches. While working in visitor centers, Park Ambassadors may answer phones, operate the cash register, or assist with various office tasks. In addition to serving as visitor liaisons, they are additional eyes and ears for the park, alerting staff to maintenance needs and safety issues and helping to keep popular sites clean. All work will be in coordination and cooperation with the NPS staff and the park lead for the program.

Park Ambassadors should expect to be on their feet, walking around, inside, outside, and on uneven terrain. They may be exposed to the elements for most, if not all, of their time volunteering. Additionally, Park Ambassadors should be prepared to model good health and safety protocols for the public, including staying on trails and carrying water. Volunteers in this position are expected to direct visitor traffic and to answer their questions in a respectful and unbiased manner and by politely facilitating interactions. Park Ambassadors may rove trails and areas by foot or the McDade Recreational Trail and parking lots by foot or bike.

Volunteers for Park Ambassador positions are asked to donate at least 8 hours per month. Hours of work will be recorded and provided to the park monthly. All work will be done per NPS rules and regulations and with park staff approval. Volunteers will be identified by wearing park issued uniform items.
