ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: Amnesty International USA

The Amnesty International USA Nominating Committee is seeking applicants to serve a three-year term, renewable once.

About the Committee

Each year, the Nominating Committee recommends the candidate slate for the Board of Directors general membership election to fill vacant board seats. The Nominating Committee is responsible for reviewing applications, interviewing applicants and their references, and ultimately determining the candidate slate through a rigorous vetting process.

Desirable Qualities

  • Strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Board governance knowledge and experience
  • Commitment to IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility)
  • Good knowledge and appreciation of Amnesty’s culture
  • Knowledge of Google Docs and Workspace

Roles and Responsibilities

AIUSA’s Board of Directors consists of AIUSA members who are elected by the larger membership. The Nominating Committee plays an important role in supporting the Board in the election process. As a member of the committee, you help to identify, review, and recommend a diverse group of potential candidates who are interested in running for the Board. The Nominating Committee also oversees the election of Board officers and makes recommendations for new Nominating Committee members.

Members of the Nominating Committee must be prepared to devote a significant amount of time to reviewing applications, interviewing prospective Board candidates, and checking their references during the late fall-early winter. The average weekly time commitment during this period is approximately 10 hours per week. The Nominating Committee also meets in-person over a weekend in January to select a proposed slate to present to the Board of Directors, as well as during the spring for the AGM.

Application Deadline

The application deadline is April 21, 2025.

Please upload your application and cover letter in the form below. Applications will be reviewed in late April and early May, interviews will take place in May, and a selection will be made by the end of June. If appointed, you will begin serving your three-year term starting Summer 2025. If you have any questions, please email Kristen Mensing at KMensing@aiusa.orgopens in a new tab.
