Spend the summer at the beautiful and peaceful Colorado National Monument. Located on the Colorado Plateau near Grand Junction CO, Colorado National Monument preserves one of the great landscapes of the American Southwest.
Volunteer duties include:
- Campground host for the 80 site Saddlehorn Campground at Colorado National Monument.
- Work consists of 32-40 hours a week, including weekends.
- Register campers and provide information for an 80-site campground.
- Explain rules and regulations of the monument and campground to campers.
- Assist campers with campground fees and using recreation.gov
- Provide park, area, and hiking information to visitors.
- Obtain daily camping reservations from NRRS.
- Provide fee compliance checks for payment or site assignments.
- Gather statistical data daily and monthly while providing information to NPS staff or logging onto a database.
- Complete minor maintenance and janitorial duties.
- Operate NPS vehicles including a golf cart, pickup truck, etc. A valid state driver's license is required.
- Report any safety or resource issues, or suspicious visitor activity, to supervisor or Law Enforcement as necessary.
Lodging and Area Information
- Lodging is provided at the camp host site (site A1) which has full hookups, a picnic table, and grill.
- The town of Fruita is located just 7 miles from the campground. Grand Junction and Palisade are a 30 to 45 minute drive. Full services are available in town, including shopping, medical services, community rec centers, places of worship, movie theaters, museums, concerts, and restaurants.
- Over 1 million acres of public land are located in the Grand Junction area, including McInnis Canyons (BLM), Grand Mesa and Uncompahgre National Forests, state parks, and the monument itself.
- An airport and train station are located in Grand Junction.
