Position Description

The ROCKBlue Consultancy ( see video) is offering a unique opportunity to get involved with our dynamic organization. You will learn invaluable skills, expand your professional contacts in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and work with a diverse group of people, situated around the world, including our Roster specialists. The small nature of our organization offers many opportunities for advancement as well as exposure to all business activities.

This position requires an awareness of ROCKBlue’s market, community, clients, and partners, as well as potential partners and clients. The Business Development Consultant will be responsible for helping to increase business opportunities for the ROCKBlue Consultancy.

Authority

  • The ROCKBlue Business Development Consultant works directly under the supervision of the Managing Director (MD).
  • The Business Development Consultant will have access to ROCKBlue’s confidential archives, marketing materials, Google Drive, and Salesforce CRM software.

Purpose

The Business Development Consultant is a primary resource for ROCKBlue's business development, with an initial emphasis on research, project design, proposal development and project budgets.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Business Development Consultant will:

  • Support the MD and his team in developing an outreach and marketing strategy.
  • Work to identify new business opportunities and track priority ones once identified. This includes researching publicly announced donor funded projects and compiling additional opportunities the organization learns about through its network.
  • Use Salesforce CRM software to manage new partners, clients, and opportunities.
  • Suggest marketing, sales, and other materials for ROCKBlue Consultancy to increase business opportunities.
  • Report to the MD on updates, changes, and any potential issues.
  • Operate and manage ROCKBlue’s databases, records, and other materials professionally and appropriately to protect the integrity of the database according to ROCKBlue’s values.
  • Assist in generating presentation materials as needed for business development purposes.
  • Communicate with and oversee others involved in proposal preparations and submittals

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Rudimentary knowledge of water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH) in the developing world with a preference for having at least one international assignment
  • Undergraduate degree with a preference for an engineering degree
  • Experience in business development is preferable
  • English proficiency (written and spoken) and good communication skills.
  • Accessible to ROCKBlue Consultancy clients and partners (e.g., aid agencies, development organizations, international engineering firms, and development financial institutions) with a preference for being located in the Washington DC area.

Time Commitment

Ability to dedicate 4-6 hours per week, virtually and to delegate work to others to advance important pursuits.

Remuneration

This is currently a volunteer position with a goal to convert this to a paid position dependent upon the success of new business generated.
