Position: Looking for writing editors to oversee the work of our writers across several teams. Should have a writing background or some prior experience in editing.

Location: Remote (Weekly Zoom Meetings)

About Us:

DEFEND is a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to reducing risks for children and vulnerable people online. We are currently building 65square, the world’s healthiest social media and dating platform, designed with game-like features and characteristics of an MMO. Our goal is to create a safer, more positive online space for users.

Role Description:

The Writing Editor will be responsible for overseeing the quality of all written content produced by the organization. This includes editing articles, blog posts, newsletters, grant proposals, and other materials to ensure clarity, coherence, and alignment with our mission. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in editing and a passion for nonprofit work.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Editing:

  • Review and edit written materials for grammar, punctuation, style, and consistency.
  • Ensure that all content adheres to the organization’s voice and branding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with writers to enhance their work while maintaining their unique voice.

Quality Assurance:

  • Conduct thorough proofreading of all published materials before release.
  • Verify facts and sources cited in articles to ensure accuracy.
  • Provide constructive feedback to writers on how to improve their writing skills.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the content team, including writers, graphic designers, and marketing staff, to develop cohesive campaigns.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate new content ideas that align with organizational goals.

Project Management:

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Maintain an organized workflow for tracking edits and revisions.

Training and Development:

  • Mentor junior writers and provide training on best practices in writing and editing.
  • Stay updated on industry trends in nonprofit communication strategies.

Qualifications:

  • MUST be 18 years and above.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an editor or similar role within a nonprofit or publishing environment.
  • Exceptional writing skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
