Recruiting Organization: Sattya Media Arts Collective
Sattya Collective is seeking a volunteer to help develop and coordinate our Makerspace--a new project in its early stages, designed to be a hub for woodworking, crafting, and tinkering. This is a unique opportunity to shape the vision and operations of a creative space while immersing yourself in Nepal’s vibrant community. If you’re passionate about creativity, sustainability, and community-building, this role is for you.
What You'll Do
As the Makerspace Coordinator, you’ll play a crucial role in both shaping and running the space, ensuring it evolves into a welcoming and inspiring environment. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Space Development:
- Collaborate with the Sattya team to design and establish operational systems for the Makerspace.
- Help identify the tools, equipment, and resources needed to get the space fully functional.
- Contribute to the creation of safety guidelines and operational protocols.
- Space Management:
- Once operational, oversee daily operations, ensuring tools and equipment are available and functional.
- Maintain inventory of supplies, restocking as needed.
- Keep the space clean, organized, and accessible to users.
- User Support:
- Assist early users in learning how to use tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Provide basic training or demonstrations for beginners.
- Troubleshoot equipment and project-related challenges, offering hands-on assistance.
- Community Building:
- Foster an inclusive and collaborative environment where creativity thrives.
- Organize early workshops, events, and meetups to bring the community into the Makerspace vision.
- Promote DIY, DIT (Do It Together), recycling, and reuse values within the community.
- Administrative Tasks:
- Help develop scheduling systems for the space to ensure fair access for all users.
- Track initial usage and participation to evaluate the space’s impact and refine operations.
- Provide updates to the Executive Director on the progress of space development, challenges, and milestones.
Who You Are
We’re looking for someone who loves creating, building systems, and fostering community. You don’t need to be an expert--just enthusiastic and ready to roll up your sleeves. Key skills and traits:
- Visionary: Excited to help shape a space from its early stages.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with tools and equipment for woodworking, crafting, or tinkering (or a willingness to learn).
- Organizational Skills: Ability to design systems, manage schedules, and keep the workspace running efficiently.
- People Skills: Comfortable engaging with and supporting makers of all skill levels.
- Problem-Solving: Quick thinking to troubleshoot challenges during the setup and operational phases.
Why Volunteer with Sattya?
This is more than a volunteer role--it’s a chance to shape the foundation of a creative hub, develop new skills, and make a meaningful impact. Here’s what you’ll gain:
- Skill Development: Hands-on experience in space development, tools, and makerspace operations.
- Creative Freedom: Be part of the visioning and operational setup of a dynamic creative space.
- Community Connection: Work alongside a diverse group of artists, makers, and innovators.
- Cultural Immersion: Explore Nepal’s vibrant culture while contributing to its creative landscape.
- Professional Growth: Take on a leadership role in building workshops, events, and systems that will define the Makerspace.
