STEM Canada is a registered not-for-profit global program that specializes in an advanced, bar-none STEM-based educational curriculum that emphasizes the interconnected subject areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The STEM program is open to all students from preschool to high school with the mission to deliver top-notch STEM literacy and application, designed to teach students in the STEM fields, yielding globally competitive results.

Location: Remote

Time commitment: 6 hours/week

Description: We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Procurement Specialist Volunteer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing our procurement processes to support our various programs and initiatives. This position requires strong organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to supporting STEM Canada’s mission through efficient and effective procurement practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute procurement strategies that align with STEM Canada’s goals and objectives. Ensure that the procurement process is efficient and cost-effective while maintaining high standards.
  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers and vendors for various needs, including educational materials, technology, and program resources. Negotiate terms and conditions to achieve the best value for the organization.
  • Oversee the creation and management of purchase orders. Track order status, ensure timely delivery of goods and services and handle any issues or discrepancies that arise.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of all procurement activities, including contracts, purchase orders, and vendor information. Prepare regular reports to monitor procurement performance and expenditures.
  • Work closely with other departments, including program coordinators, marketing, and admissions, to understand their procurement needs and ensure timely fulfillment of orders.
  • Continuously assess and improve procurement processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to streamline procurement activities.
  • Ensure that all procurement activities comply with organizational policies, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Assist with procurement needs related to fundraising events, workshops, and other special initiatives. Source materials and services required for successful execution.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in procurement or supply chain management, with a strong understanding of procurement processes and best practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in managing procurement activities and maintaining records.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers and vendors to achieve favorable terms and conditions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Passion for STEM education and a commitment to supporting STEM Canada’s mission through effective procurement practices.
  • Familiarity with procurement software and tools. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Ability to engage with a diverse global audience and work within a multicultural environment.
