STEM Canada is a registered not-for-profit global program that specializes in an advanced, bar-none STEM-based educational curriculum that emphasizes the interconnected subject areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The STEM program is open to all students from preschool to high school with the mission to deliver top-notch STEM literacy and application, designed to teach students in the STEM fields, yielding globally competitive results.

Location: Remote

Time commitment: 6 hours a week

Description: We are in search of an experienced and caring Scholarship/Financial Aid Advisor to become part of our team as a virtual volunteer. In this position, your responsibility will be to support people in understanding and navigating the scholarship and financial aid procedures in order to help them obtain funding for their educational goals. While working from a remote location, you will work together with your team to improve our financial aid services and make sure that applicants are provided with the help they require.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer professional assistance and help to individuals looking for scholarships and financial aid, including details on application processes, qualifications, and due dates.
  • Help applicants with the preparation and submission of scholarship and financial aid applications, making sure they are accurate and complete.
  • Assess and review financial assistance applications and paperwork to ascertain qualifications and provide suggestions.
  • Create and present online workshops or webinars on financial aid subjects, such as advice on applications, financial planning, and handling student loans.
  • Keep updated on present scholarship options, financial assistance programs, and updates in funding rules.
  • Keep detailed records of client communications and application progress while upholding confidentiality and securing data.
  • Work together with colleagues to enhance and simplify financial assistance procedures and assets.
  • Take part in online meetings to share information about financial aid initiatives and gather input.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Scholarship/financial aid advisor or similar role, with a strong portfolio of successful Scholarship campaigns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Capability to work autonomously and juggle various responsibilities in a remote setting.
  • Having prior knowledge of financial aid software and tools is advantageous.
  • Creative mindset with the ability to think outside the box.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Passion for STEM education and commitment to promoting STEM literacy and application.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to engage with a diverse global audience.
