About Us

DEFEND is a 100%, volunteer-run, nonprofit organization committed to reducing risks for children and vulnerable individuals online. We are designing a social media platform called 65square that prioritizes safety, mental health and environmental awareness. It is a new type of social media platform with wellness at its core, featuring innovations aimed at creating a safer online environment.

Role Description

As a Child Psychologist/Psychology Major/Mental Health Expert, you will collaborate with our design and development teams to provide insights and recommendations for creating a mental-health-conscious platform. Your expertise will help ensure the features and content of 65square promote wellness, mitigate risks, and support vulnerable individuals online. We are seeking input from mental health professionals to ensure our platform design includes thoughtful and effective features to support children and vulnerable users.

This is a volunteer position with flexible hours. Your contributions could directly influence the safety and well-being of countless users worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional input on the mental health aspects of 65square’s design and functionality.
  • Help develop features aimed at supporting the mental well-being of children and vulnerable populations.
  • Offer advice on strategies to minimize harm, such as combating cyberbullying, improving user engagement, and promoting emotional resilience.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure content, tools, and policies reflect best practices in mental health.
  • Support research efforts to validate and refine mental health-oriented features.
  • Advocate for wellness and safety in all aspects of the platform’s development.

Qualifications

  • A degree or current enrollment in a program related to Psychology, Child Development, Counseling, or a related mental health field.
  • Professional experience working with children or vulnerable populations is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of mental health challenges faced by children and young adults in the digital world.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment.
  • Passion for creating safer and more supportive online spaces.
